Richard Down FCA: Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Also Chairman of its Investment Committee. Has held senior management appointments in a range of British and international projects since the early 1980s, and has acted as an Advisor to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the DTI.  He held senior executive management roles for the three UK Presidencies of the European Community; the G7 and G8 Summit Conferences; the EC’s G7 Technology Summit, and the 1992 and 1998 European Council Meetings. As Advisor to the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office he is credited with pioneering the private sector funding for major UK Government events. Consultancy appointments have included, Vauxhall Motors, General Motors, MK Electric, Eurotunnel, UK Director for Arius 3D Inc, and the strategic development of the World Internet Forum. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Strategic Advisor to Towers Perrin, and to the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement; and a member of the Board of Advisors to Merchants Partners LLC, the San Francisco-based investment group.

David Astor, CBE DL:  Executive Committee Chairman

Farmer.  Also:  National Chairman Council for The Protection of Rural England, 1983-93;  Co-founder Jupiter Asset Management, 1985;  SDP Parliamentary Candidate for Plymouth Drake, 1987;  Founder Chairman, Classic FM, 1986-91;  Co-founder & Director, Priory Investments, 1990;  Chairman, Southern Arts Board, 1998-2002.  Chairman, Action for Prisoners’ Families; Trustee of Glyndebourne Productions Ltd  and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  Appointed CBE 1994.

Director, Wykeham Trustees;  Wykeham Trees;  Wykeham Farms;  St Helens in the Park.  Deputy Lieutenant North Yorkshire;  General Commissioner of Income Tax;  Chairman, Wykeham Parish Council.  President of the Aston Martin Owners’ Club and several Yorkshire-based charities such as NDPCC Victims’ Support.  Freeman of the City of London (Liveryman - Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers).   County President of North Yorkshire for EFC and a Visitor for EFC’s Case Department.  Chairman of the Board of Trustees 2003 – 2006.  Appointed High Sheriff of North Yorkshire 2006 - 7.

Richard Halcrow SFA

Ex-Chairman KPM Halcrow, a leading City Executive Search firm;  Director, AC European Finance, a specialist Investment Bank;  Trustee, the Bradfield Foundation.  Main Board Director of Morgan Grenfell & Co Ltd and Chairman of various subsidiary companies 1990-1997;  a partner at Caspian Securities Ltd 1997-98.  Has served on various Boards and Advisory Committees including British Invisibles; London Chamber of Commerce;  Industry and Credit for Exports plc.

Dr Michael Harding MBBS, MRCS, LRCP, DRCOG

A full-time family practitioner, in practice in Knightsbridge since 1970.  Qualified at St Mary’s Hospital, London;  Medical Registrar at Central Middlesex Hospital 1969-70; Visiting Medical Officer at King Edward VII Hospital for Officers. Trustee, Sir Siegmund Warburg’s Voluntary Settlement and the F H Muirhead CharitableTrust (medical grant-giving charities). Trustee, The Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology.  Is Company Doctor to various organisations.

Dr Shaheena Janjuha-Jivraj

Dr Shaheena Janjuha-Jivraj is a senior lecturer at Reading University Business School. She has a wealth of experience in marketing and entrepreneurship and is co-founder of the International Centre for Entrepreneurship (ICE).

Dr Janjuha-Jivraj has developed training and capacity building programmes for start-up businesses and social enterprises. And her research on survival and succession in family firms has spanned the UK, USA and East Africa. She has also provided consultancy to a range of organisations including the Women and Equality Unit, the Institute of Directors, Business Links and Hillingdon Council. 

Her voluntary work has included strategic planning and programme delivery within the Ismaili Community focusing on employment and professional development and more recently access to higher education.

Mrs David Mackenzie

EFC’s Case Committee Chairman 1999-2002.  Currently Joint Chairman of the Cotswold Home House Committee and Visitor for EFC’s Case Department.

Mr Michael Pavia FCA: Hon Treasurer

Currently a non-executive director of Thames Water Utilities Ltd, British Nuclear Fuels Ltd, Salamander Energy plc and Telecom Plus plc. He was previously finance director LASMO plc, SEEBOARD plc (now EDF Energy plc) and Price Waterhouse in London. Mr Pavia is also a member of the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and chairman of its audit committee. He was appointed Chairman of EFC Audit Committee in June 2008.

Mrs Francesca Quint

Senior member of the Chancery bar, specialising in charity law, wills and trusts.  Deputy Commissioner of the Charity Commission 1984-89.  Member, CLA Executive Committee; the Advisory body of the Almshouses Association; the Council of St Peter’s Convent, Woking;  the Council of the Statute Law Society;  the Board of the COIF Charity Funds;  Trustee of the COIF Deposit Fund.  Helped set up the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR) set up a joint scheme for the mediation of charity disputes in conjunction with NCVO. Has written model governing documents for the Charity Law Association and her other publications include ‘Running a Charity’ (Jordans) and numerous articles for the ‘Charity Law and Practice Review’ and ‘Charity Finance’.  Also edits notable charity works including the Charities volume of Butterworth’s Encyclopaedia and co-edits Sweet & Maxwell’s ‘Charities:  the Law & Practice’.

John Stephen, BSc FRICS

Chartered Surveyor.  Currently Chairman (England) of Jones Lang LaSalle, concentrating on advice to West End commercial property owners on investment sales, redevelopment and funding.  He specialises in international marketing, having spent over 30 years with the company dealing in investment markets including 5 years in Hong Kong and Tokyo.  He is also Non-Executive Director of Foreign & Colonial Commercial Property Trust Ltd and Evans Property Group.  He has been a Trustee of Age Concern Westminster, and is currently Hon Treasurer of the Westminster Property Owners Association, and the British Property Federation. He is a Business Mentor and a Panel Member of the Prince’s Trust.

Martin Watts

Former chief executive of The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT),  Mr Watts is also chairman of the board of Elizabeth Finn Homes Limited (EFHL), EFC’s wholly owned subsidiary responsible for the management of its homes. During his four years at the OSJCT, Watts trebled its size and made it one of the leading and largest not for profit care trusts in the country. His past chief executive positions include The Oliver’ Group Plc, Homepower Ltd, and Olympus Sports Intl. Mr Watts is also a non-executive director of the Royal Air Forces Association.
